summer!

Summer has been so great! I’ve done so many things! Today my cousins and I borrowed an air mattress from our friends up the beach and attach it to the back of our boat. We were out on it for hours! I also went to summer camp for a couple of weeks! I met a lot of new friends and had a great time. I leave to Germany in a few weeks and can’t wait! I hope to see my old friend that left to Europe this school year.

Summer has been really fun and I am doing a lot of traveling. Here is a picture of some of my friends I met at camp.

Skylark

Posted on May 16, 2010 in books,Community,non-school work by seanisme

i just finished one of the most powerful books that I have ever read, it is called Skylark. Evean though it is only 89 pages, it was so sad but it had a very happy ending. I think I even cried! I would recemend it to just about anyone. I am also surprised that I like it because normally I would read a horror or action book rather than a family book. The main reason I read this book was because in 3rd grade back in Canada (I now live in Arabia) my class read the 1st book of the serise “Sarah Plain and Tall” wich explaines how the childrens genetical mother died and how they meat there new mother Sarah. this is definetly one of my favorite books and I can’t wait to read the next book of the searise “Calub’s Story”

English Homework: When I Overcame Adversity

One of the times I overcame adversity was when I was about 7-8 years old and I had an asthma attack (When it is very hard for you to breath), and I was very scared. I stayed in the hospital for 5-6 days with my brother and parents. It helped that many of my friends and relatives came to see me. I came back to school a week later and was very happy to see my classmates again

Mrs.Frisby and the Rats of NIHM: The Owl

This was a very interesting chapter and I am realy enjoing the book! I like the detail and the voices the author uses when the aria the characters are in changes. But, there is no mention of  the kids exept for Timmothy. I think I need to change my prediction on whether or not Timmothy will die because he is now he is a major character.

I think that the rats will let Mrs. Frisby in because they trust her husband. I wonder what her husbuand did to get himself into the rats group?

It’s cool that a mouse can ride on a pigion! I wonder what that would be like? I think it would be fun to have the wind in my face!

Mrs.Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

The new book we are reading for school is called Mrs.Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. So far it is a great story, but I like crackers. This doesn’t have anything to do with the post but it is needed. The story is about a family of mice that are moving to a new home but the youngest mouse (Mrs. Frisby’s favorite child) gets sick.

I predict that Timmothy (the youngest and smartest mouse) will die. The Mother (Mrs.Frisby) is very persistant and is a hero for running all that way to see Mr.Ages who is the pharmasist to the other small creatures. She also faced her fears and went out a very long time to try to get medicine from Mr.Ages.

Absailing in Oman

Posted on March 21, 2010 in English,ICT,Oman trip,School Work by seanisme

Absailing was lots of fun! It was the 6th or 7th day and i couldent wait to get home to my family and give them the gifts i bought them in the souq (arabian markets). i brought my brother i kanjar which is an Omani knife with a curve. it has the curve because when the Omani hunters and  soldures bent down to pray the knife would have stabbed them.

Anyway, it was an early morning and everyone was tired. We had a very cold breakfast of cerial, and the milk was nearly frozen! We then packed up our tent and got in the 4 weel drives with our guides. Me and my friends, Keeghan and Vasco, were promissed the car with music, but we didn’t have very high hopes concidering the the other boys were also told the same thing! But eventually they said that we could use it. I was glad that we did because last time the girls got the car, and our teacher cept playing Bob Marly and nothing else! Do you know how anoying that is!

So after a very quick drive through the mountians, we came to a cliff. There we saw 3 Brittish instructers wating for us. We hopped out of our car eagerly and packed a lunch into our backpacks, put on our harneses, most had trouble, but not me, because back in Canada (thats were I am from) I was part of a rock climbing club. I put on my harness and got an ok from one of the instructors. I then wated for some other poeple to be done so I would have someone to talk to.

After a few minutes of wating the instructors finially got everyone ready and we were off. Me and Vasco were in the front as usuial. After  a small walk down the side of the cliff, we came to a small flat piece of rock. We stood there for a few moments as the two instructors who were with us were calling to a differen’t instructor(Big Al was his name) down below. The instructor asked if one of us would like to go first. I was experienced so I raised my hand.

Sorry not finished yet. small problem occoured.

Oman poem

Posted on March 17, 2010 in Community,English,ICT,School Work by seanisme

Mostly out of breath

Leading the way stumbling over rocks.

Large and small with different shapes and colors.

Holding  back the pain.

pretend to be fine just to keep the attention away.

Walking through mud, dust and water.

Getting stuck in thick water.

The awkward discomfort of rocks and sand.

About to lose hope of ever getting a break.

The scent of water and algae.

The echo of water trickling.

Lay down my hat; camera and backpack.

Leap into the refreshing water.

Wadi Shab Trip in Oman

Posted on March 16, 2010 in English,Homework by seanisme

There were many things we did in oman but Wadi Shab was my favorite!

Mostly out of breath with me and Vasco leading the way, stumbling over many rocks. Large and small with lots of different shapes and colors. Every time I fall I hold back the pain and pretend to be fine just to keep the attention away from me.

Walking through mud, dust and water. Occasionally getting stuck in a thick layer of dark water. The awkward discomfort of rocks and sand rubbing agenized my foot.

I am about to lose hope of ever getting a break when the scent of water and algae fill my nose and the echo of water trickling from afar.

I lay down my hat; camera and backpack on the ledge of rock and leap into the refreshing water.

Voice and Word Choice

Posted on March 2, 2010 in English,Magazine article Article,School Work by seanisme

There are many different voices in writing.
Voice is the way that something is written. It is the style that someone uses to tell a story or give information. For example, there can be a scary voice, an excited voice, un-happy voice, bored voice and many others. The same story can be written in many different voices. Using a different voice, can change the genre and overall mood of the writing.

Word choice is using parts of speech that make a sentence. Changing, adding or taking away a few words can change the entire meaning of a sentience. For example “The nice boy ran fast as lightening” and “The angry boy didn’t run very quickly”.

Magazine Article Poste on Organizeation

Posted on February 8, 2010 in Assessments,English,Homework,Magazine article Article,School Work by seanisme

First we chose a subject that we new quite alot about and that we would enjoy writing about, I chose Wayne Gretzky. I chose him because i knew quite a lot about  him, and he also played for my favorite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers. Then we branched it off into 3 different smaller subjects. we then wrote some of the supporting facts and some of the questions that we had.

We then did some research that we had and found out some things that would be useful in our article.

We took some of the facts and started to make a paragraph.

Now we are working on inproving our voice to make it more personal.
